RYCYN — Rethinking Movement.

Rethinking Movement.

Movement first. Shape follows.

RYCYN is a gaming device brand that designs its products from human movement, so that what a player can already do reaches the controls intact. As a first step it turned to the movement of the hand, and made RYF-001, a mouse shell for fingertip grip only.

Philosophy

We design mice around movement, not grip labels.

What a mouse shape decides first is not your grip. It decides an allocation: which movements of the fingers and wrist are held still, and which are left free. The position your hand settles into is the result — and only afterwards do we give it a name like palm, claw or fingertip. RYF-001 was designed backwards from that allocation rather than from an existing shape.

RYF-001 / shapes maketh aim.

A fingertip hold leaves almost every movement free and supports the mouse on the fingertips alone. The freedom is real, and so is its cost: the support a shape should provide is instead produced by the muscles of the fingers. The design goal for RYF-001 was to take on that stabilising work in the shape, without taking away the freedom.

75 × 70 × 30 mm · 30 g (assembled)

Sold as a mouse shell only. It is not a finished mouse.

Assembly requires an Endgame Gear OP1 8K v2 (sold separately). The OP1 8K v2 is taken apart and the rear section of its PCB cut before fitting. Taking it apart and modifying it may void the manufacturer's warranty.

Shape is part of the input.

Wide by Design

RYF-001 from directly above: the outline runs front to back with no waist70mm

Width lets the fingers open naturally, so the shape resists lateral drift instead of the muscles.

No Waist

RYF-001 from directly above: the outline runs front to back with no waist

No waist in the flanks, so the palm keeps its freedom to slide fore and aft.

Open Finger Angle

RYF-001 from the front, an angle that shows how wide it is

No steep flank angle, so whether the fingers stand up or lie flat is left to you.

Low Front

RYF-001 in true side view, showing how low the front is

A low front, so vertical finger movement passes through unimpeded.

Approach

Experimental in thinking. Rational in reasoning. Precise in execution.

No performance is claimed. What is shown is the design decision — which movements the shape takes on, which it leaves to you — and the reasoning behind it.
